The Ice Hotel in Sweden is a frozen masterpiece. And as its name suggests, it’s made from approximately 4,000 tons of ice and the equivalent in snow of about 700 million snowballs. Construction on the hotel begins each year when the River Torne in Sweden’s Lapland freezes. Each room of the hotel is a one-of-a-kind, hand carved work of art. And yes, you can really check in and stay there. But don’t forget your sweater.
Founded in 1989, the hotel is open just three months of the year. The catch? The hotel melts each spring. And the silver lining? A brand new one will be back next year.
