Did you know that the average American consumes more than 300 gallons of California water each week — even if they don’t live in California? It’s true.
How? By eating food like grapes, oranges, almonds, strawberries, rice, avocados and more. It turns out that about 80% of California’s water is used in farming. And with the current drought situation, that’s a serious amount of water.
You’ll be amazed at how much water it takes to produce just three mandarin oranges: 42 gallons. And sixteen almonds? Fifteen gallons of water. A slice of avocado? Four gallons. And the list goes on. The real shocker is that four (just FOUR) glasses of milk takes 143 gallons of water to produce.
So think about that the next time you drink milk, eat almonds, or … waste water.
